Description

Local authority led refurbishment scheme on a five-span viaduct comprising prestressed beams supported on reinforced concrete abutments and insitu reinforced concrete half joints, which are part of reinforced concrete V-shaped piers. Repairs included replacement of bridge expansion joints, superstructure drainage, waterproofing renewal, parapet replacement and concrete repairs to the half-joints, stringcourse cantilevers, piers and abutments.

Our role included project management of the design phase of the scheme and acting as Local Authority Technical Approval Authority on a technically challenging scheme.

Our team worked collaboratively with the local authority stakeholders, designers and ECI contractor to develop a design and prepare contract documents for the viaduct carrying the bypass over a busy roundabout and tramline near central Oldham. This ensured the design met client needs and meticulous planning of the construction phase to minimise disruption to road users and members of the public in Oldham.
