Description

As part of the wider Northern Gateway cycle network scheme in central Manchester, an active travel pedestrian and cycle bridge was proposed to replace a listed canal lock bridge.

Our role included the design of a steel pedestrian and cycle bridge and reinforced concrete abutments and ramps supported on piles. The structure included bespoke parapets and fascias designed by the architect, Hawkins-Brown.

Our designer worked collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of an aesthetically pleasing structure that blends modern architecture with industrial history in a fast-developing area of Manchester.
