Description

Local authorities are responsible for managing a vast portfolio of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. They require independent, expert technical approval for any design, assessment, or modification works to ensure compliance, safety, and durability. Managing the TAA function internally can be challenging due to scheme complexity, resource constraints, and the need for impartiality and specialised expertise.

Our experts provide comprehensive TAA support services to local highway authorities. We deliver quality assurance for a wide range of highway structures, ensuring designs and assessments fully comply with the relevant sections of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), national standards, and relevant codes of practice. Our services include:

  • Reviewing and assessing Approval in Principle (AIP) submissions for all categories of structures.

  • Conducting independent checks for new designs, modifications, and assessments of existing structures.

  • Providing expert technical advice on complex engineering issues and ensuring submissions meet all safety-critical requirements.

  • Verifying that all structural designs and calculations are technically robust and fit for purpose.

We work closely with local authority teams and external designers to ensure a smooth and efficient technical approval process. We aim to identify and resolve technical issues proactively, helping to avoid program delays. Our team provides the expertise and resource needed to give local authorities confidence in the technical integrity of their highway structures, ensuring that all works are carried out in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner for the long term.
